Which One is Better?
When it comes to buying jewelry, there are many options available. Two of the most popular metals used in jewelry are gold and gold-filled metals, but which option is actually better? Each metal has its own benefits which will help the buyer choose which type of metal they should use when purchasing an item for themselves or as a gift.
WHAT IS GOLD FILLED?
Gold filled jewelry is a cost-effective way for people to buy gold jewelry. Gold filled jewelry is created by bonding a layer of 10k gold to a core metal such as silver, brass, etc. The gold layer is usually 1/20th inch in thickness.
Gold filled jewelry does not contain nickel and is great for those with sensitive skin or who are allergic to this metal. If properly cared for, it can last a lifetime.
WHAT IS SOLID GOLD?
Solid Gold Jewelry is a piece of jewelry made entirely of gold. It's the most expensive and durable among other types of fine gold jewelry. Solid gold items are either marked 10K, 14K, 18K or 24K.
Due to its high price, solid gold is often used for custom jewelry that is made to order because it gives the jeweler full control of the design.
